2023 Scholarship Information
The St. Thomas Aquinas Altar & Rosary Society (STARS) is awarding two one-time $250 scholarships to a graduating high school senior who is a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church (Indianola) to help further his/her education. Recipients are to be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student pursuing a degree, license, or certification in a college the semester immediately following high school graduation.
Basic Criteria
A. Applicant must be an active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
B. Applicant must have good academic standing in his/her class at the end of seven semesters as determined by the review committee.
C. Applicant must be enrolling as a full-time undergraduate student (12 semester hours or more) at a post-secondary school offering a degree, license or certificate.
Selection Procedure
Applications for this scholarship must be submitted to Kate Lerseth at [email protected] no later than 3:30 p.m., Friday, March 31st 2023 to be considered. Award recipients shall be selected by a review committee as determined by the STARS president. The committee may seek advice and guidance from high school guidance counselors and/or principals in complying with the requirements under Basic Criteria and obtaining other information. The review committee will use the following criteria in the selection process:
1. Involvement of St. Thomas Aquinas parish activities following confirmation.
2. Dependability
3. Other factors in making their selection.
The announcement of the scholarship winner will be shared at the Senior Breakfast (date TBD).
Payment
Proof of acceptance to a post-secondary college/university shall be sent to the St. Thomas Aquinas parish office. Upon that receipt, the scholarship award payment will be made directly to the award recipient. It will be the recipient's responsibility to utilize the scholarship funds for expenses directly related to his/her educational needs.

So much turmoil, pain and suffering. We experience, feel and see it daily in those closest to us, in our community, state, country and around the world. With all happenings was, is and will be we often become overwhelmed. Weariness and despair can overtake us in believing the world is imploding before us. Yet we continue in hope and yearn for peace. We may pray daily for peace and certainly pray weekly when celebrating mass especially during the consecration bread and wine. We extend a sign of peace to those celebrating with us. What are we thinking when replying peace and extending a sign of peace? What are we asking of God? What is the peace are we looking and longing for?
What can we do to bring peace, to put an end to mankind’s hostility which causes so much pain and suffering. In a single spaced essay, that is least one half pages but not more than one full page in length, explain the what kind of peace you look for and where does peace begin.

Weekends: Saturday, 4:30pm
Sunday, 8:00am and 10:15am

Sundays 5:00 p.m. (not every weekend)
